Wow! It has been am amazing, exhausting two weeks. I have been meaning to post for a while now, but I have been so busy and when I have had a minute to blog I have opted for resting. We closed on our house three weeks ago yesterday. All that stress I was doing over the extra money they were saying we needed at closing turned out to be nothing to worry about at all (I know, I know that is why it is useless to worry!). Our final amount we needed to bring to closing was over $4000 less than what we were told. The closing went smoothly (well, except our lawyer was 45 minutes late) and both lawyers were delighted how easily the closing went. Since we had some money left over we purchased a new bedroom suit for our room and we got new mattresses. We have had the same mattress for almost 15 years and trust me, it was not the best mattress when we purchased it 15 years ago. We have both been sleeping so much better and I am not sure if it is the mattress or we are at peace being out of that apartment! The week following closing I spent a few days bringing small loads of boxes and items to the house. It was nice to start getting things moved over, but it really was a strain on me physically and I was starting to think I was just prolonging the torture that is moving. Our bedroom furniture was delivered on Thursday and Friday evening Jeremy and one of our friends helped move the kid's beds and some other bigger items over to the house and we spent our first night in our new house. Saturday we had lots of help and moved the rest of the things over from the apartment. Well, most of the items. You know when you move and you think "oh, I only have such and such left to pack up". You then realize that that one closet or the book shelf in the hallway and then you forgot that you have a drawer in the bathroom and you forgot that your fridge was also full of food. I went back to the apartment on the Monday thinking I could finish up packing the books and those few other items and get the apartment clean. Well, it was not that easy. It also did not help that we were getting close to six inches of snow that day and I had to park farther away from the apartment and when I got to the apartment I realized that there were so many little things left behind to pack. I spent the entire day at the apartment and I still did not get finished. It was so depressing to be there that I actually cried while I waited to pick the kids up from school because that place drains me so much. We finally got every thing out and everything cleaned up last Thursday and the peace that took over me when I finally walked away from that place just washed over me. I got in our car and as I drove away I had to give thanks to God for providing us a place to live our first few years in Chicago, but I am so very thankful that that part of our story has come to an end. We are loving our house! We are still getting every thing in order, but it is amazing the difference these last few weeks has made in our spirits, even the kids. We are all smiling and laughing more and every thing smells better, tastes better, we are all breathing better, and we are all sleeping better. The kids have been playing together and the fighting has been decreased between them by 90%. I promise to get more pictures of the house once we get everything hung and put together :). Our biggest adjustment is definitely the commute to school each day. Getting to school in the morning and getting home in the afternoon is taking much longer than anticipated. The kids have been amazing with leaving earlier and have been great with the longer drive to school. We were stuck in traffic the other morning and Samuel reminded me that this traffic was still worth it if we did not have to live on that apartment anymore :).
Well, there have been so many other things going on. We have had some sickness, orthodontist appointments, and a new nephew. I will be sharing more about those things in the coming week, but I thought I better wrap up the move before any more time went by.
We colored eggs today and did some work in the yard. Here are a few pictures from today. I realized when I downloaded these pictures that I had not used my real camera since Christmas.
