The day had finally arrived, we would be taking custody of Emma! We got up and got ready. We went to a cute cafe down the street for breakfast and then we headed over to our agency. We were not really sure how all of this was going to happen, we were just told to come to the agency at 10:30 that morning. We get to the agency and they take us on a little tour of the building. We meet and have our picture taken with the president of the agency and he gives us a small jewelry box as a keepsake for our daughter. We go back upstairs and we are asked to what in this little room. We anxiously are waiting and after a few minutes Emma's foster mother comes in the room with Emma. Emma is all bundled up and the foster mother has all of Emma's belongings in two blue bags, She hands us the bags and also a few gifts that she has bought for us and Emma. It is a little awkward because we are all sitting in there and the foster mother is still holding Emma and we are not sure what happens next. A social worker comes in the room and tell us it is now time to go. We all get up and start walking to the elevator. Emma is still in the foster mother's arms. The social worker, Jeremy, and myself step into the elevator. With the door still open the foster mother hands me Emma and the door closes with a weeping woman on the other side of the door and a screaming baby now in my arms. This precious baby has been torn away from the woman she loves and knows as her mother. At this moment of her world crashing she cannot feel our love for her nor can she understand my words of comfort and love. We are whisked away to a waiting van and get in. I am still holding a inconsolable Emma (car seats are not used) as we drive back to our hotel. I hold her close the entire ride, but this poor baby is crying a cry of such loss that the pain can be felt to the very core of your being. We heard a cry that day that was unlike anything we have ever experienced and our hearts broke. Adoption is a beautiful, wonderful thing, but it does not come without pain and heartache. We find it annoying when people point out or say things about adoption about how hard it must be or other comments about the ugly side of adoption because we know what that pain looks and sounds like. We are too much aware of the hard parts of adoption. We finally arrived at our hotel. Emma had settled down some. We played with a few toys and we figured out that eating something was a good way to keep her calm. At some point I had to leave the room for a minute and she went back into her panic. She screamed and cried until she finally fell asleep in Jeremy's arms. She woke up from her nap in a better mood and we ventured outside for a few hours with her. There were no more tears that night and she actually slept through the night, She was sleeping beside me and it was still hard to believe that our baby girl was actually laying next to us. Hard to believe that the next day we would finally be taking her home.
Well, we had a good day yesterday. The kids got some chocolate and I made some coupon books for them to use to get some special treats. We went to church and then came home to rest for a few hours. We had a friend volunteer to watch the kids last night so we could go on a date.It has snowed most of the day yesterday, so we decided to go somewhere pretty close to home to eat. We enjoyed a nice evening out and we were thankful for our friend watching the kids. Today we are all home for President's Day, so the plan is to be pretty lazy today. We are keeping some of our friend's kids tonight so that should be fun. Enjoy your day!
