Nothing says "Welcome to Chicago" like a little fender-bender, so I got my welcome today. Yesterday when I posted about how confident I was in my driving and as soon as I posted last night I felt like I had probably jinxed myself:) So this morning the kids and I dropped Jeremy off at school and I had to go back to the CPS office to finish some paperwork. I have to admit that I was pretty nervous because it is pretty close to downtown and it was the furthest I had driven in the city. I also knew that I had to park about a block away because the office does not have its parking lot next to its office. I made it safely there but as I saw the CPS parking lot I noticed that there was some congestion near the entrance. I guess the lot was full so there were several cars trying to exit while several cars were trying to enter (there was only one way to enter and exit). I was still on the road waiting and the next thing I know this car goes full force in reverse and slams into the front of our Envoy on the driver side. I had the kids and they were shocked! He pulled to the side and I pulled in behind him. He was a very nice older man and he felt terrible! He admitted that he was already having a terrible morning! He was Middle Eastern and the kids liked the way he talked:) He came to the Envoy and checked to make sure the kids were okay. I have never been in an accident so I could not think clearly. I got all of his information but I did not get a police report. There was minor damage (well it is turning out to maybe being more damage) so I continued on my search to find a place to park. I was already shook up and I kept driving in circles trying to find a place to park! I finally gave up and headed back home. Jeremy is going to take me in the morning to finish my paperwork. The kids and I then headed to the YMCA for some more sessions. This afternoon we talked about Autism and every time I am in a class or discussion about special needs I really start considering taking classes and getting endorsed to teach special education. It just inspires me to learn how to reach and teach these children. After my session I headed back to pick up Jeremy. We then discovered that the place where I was hit is scraping against the tire when we turn to the right. I called and reported the claim but without a police report this guy could have totally denied that it was his fault. Thankfully he took full responsibility and we are getting a rental car in the morning and will have it until the Envoy is fixed. When the incident happened I was so frazzled, but I whispered a prayer that I would be Christ to this gentleman. I pray that my response has an impact on his life.
Well, as I am writing, John, the brother who lives below us, is trying to fix the pipes in the kitchen. The water is backing up into the sink and some other gross stuff. Friday night my mom and I scrubbed the kitchen for hours because the grease build up was unbelievable. I am not sure the people before us (they lived here 8 years) ever wiped down the kitchen. My mom and I happened to scrub one of the cabinet knobs and we realized that they are bronze not black. Anyway, John did pull out a huge grease ball out of the pipes ( sorry, gross I know!) but there still seems to be a problem. Okay I am just rambling now...
I am finally seeing some progress in the house. I found the living room floor and the hallway is almost cleared. It is frustrating because I feel like I am just moving things from one room to another! I also got some curtains up and rugs down, so it is started to feel more like home. I took a few pictures of the apartment and I know it is still a mess, but you should have seen it yesterday!:) I also know that many that read my blog really want to see the kids, so I am trying to get a picture of them each day.
Oh, one last thing. Jeremy had to call the man whose family is moving into our TN house about some thing and it turns out that this family has moved from MI to start a church in TN. The man made this comment, "We really feel like God saved this house for us." It made me realize that some times are prayers seem like they are not answered because our situation is the answer to someone else's prayer. Does that make sense? It really is amazing to see God work!
Please ignore the mess behind Sam's head. Have I mentioned I really miss my closet space?

My newest owl. The nightlight in the bathroom closest to the kids room.

So two days ago you could not see the fireplace:) Welcome to my mess.
