I have decided not to apologize for the lack of blogging these past few weeks. The weeks are flying by and I had no idea that I have not posted since October 1st! We have had many visitors the past few weeks and it has been wonderful. Jeremy parents were here a week ago and it was nice to have them in Chicago. We were in school most of the time, but it was nice to come home to Bev already having supper ready. The kids enjoyed spending time with them and look forward to seeing them at Christmas. Last Wednesday the kids and I had a half day of school and it was nice to just come home and get some things done and take a nice nap. Wednesday evening our college friends (who are now missionaries to Spain) Matthew and Brooke Turnbough came over for supper. They also have three kids and it took a few minutes for their kids to warm up to us strangers, but soon all the kids were playing and having a great time. It was soo nice to have another couple our age to just sit and talk and laugh and have a great time together. It has only deepened my prayer for another family to join us in our ministry. On Saturday my parents and my Uncle and Aunt from Missouri came up to Chicago and had lunch at our house. My uncle and aunt are raising their grandson who is about the age of Sam and the kids loved having another playmate. Janna (Jeremy's sister) is coming in Thursday night and we are looking forward to seeing her! Sunday we visited a church and really liked it. One of our teachers attends this church and it was the most welcoming of any church we visited. Many have asked about "where we are going to church?" and the truth is that we have been visiting several churches getting ideas about how things work in the city. We have been to several, but we will probably start attending the one we went to on Sunday over the next year. Yesterday I worked in the morning but took the afternoon off because the girls had an eye doctor appointment. Both girls did AMAZING and the doctor could not believe how good they did through the whole exam. He was also shocked that they were not related biologically because their eyes were so similar. They both have a slight Astigmatism and will need to be rechecked in 6 months. If it has gotten worse we may be looking at glasses, but for right now their vision is great. After the appointment the girls and I just hung out together and it was great.
Since I last posted Chloe has been doing better at school, but I guess she saves it up for when she gets home. When Gran and Papa were here she decided to try to "cook" by getting into several spices from the chili and mixing up some sauce in a pan of hot water on the stove. Then two days later she got hold of the scissors and cut a gash out of her bangs. Thankfully I know this child's hair and have been cutting it myself so I was able to fix it enough to not look entirely ridiculous for school pictures that took place on Friday. Our biggest struggle is that she will lie to us. Sam and Emma are still behaving and I am praying that sister soon catches on to them getting rewarded for their good behavior.
Well, I have not been sleeping well the past few nights, so I took something to help me sleep and I can feel it starting to kick in. I love working at our school, but it is a tough class. The boys are really aggressive and do not listen very well and it has worn me out! I am not used to being with 20 preschools every day! I have been struggling, especillay with the afternoon class. I was convicted today when the YMCA guys that come in at 3:30 to take over for afterschool asked me how today went and I said it was a pretty good day and one guy commented on how I usually have "had it" when they arrive. He was not being unkind and he was being truthful. When they get there to take over I am ready to hit the door. I realized that I need to be more careful about my attitude and the way I act even when I am frazzled. I did have a mother hug me today and thanked me for what I am doing (yes, her child is one of my struggles). I mentioned the first week of school that their was one little guy who cried every day, all day that first week. He finally took to me at the end of the week and then we went on Strike. He had his tonsils out and had some complications so he just returned to school yesterday! He is doing great and he LOVES me and it warms my heart. He does not speak a word of English, but we have connected and I love seeing him run to me with his arms wide for a hug. Oh, I also had a dad of one of my students ask me for my phone number this morning. My personal phone number! There is not one single reason for him calling me since I am only the assistant in the morning! It was so awkward! I heard that happens sometimes, but I did not think it would happen to me! I just gave him the number to the school:)
Have a great week!
