Sunday, July 8, 2012- Happy Birthday Chloe!
" In October 2006, she felt her body got changed and she took a test to confirm her pregnancy and she told him (the birth father). Time went by not knowing of what to do as the two were too young. One day they had a quarrel over a trivial thing and soon she tried to call him but he did not answer. A few days after, she was cut off from him. She searched for him through a friend. But she could not find him. In the meantime her sister noticed that she got bigger and took her to the hospital. They confirmed that she was 7 months along. She entered a shelter for unmarried mothers to get help. And she delivered this child later."
When we received Sam and Emma's information about the days leading up to their birth I was not as emotionally attached to the words printed on the referral papers. I guess the connection with the birth mother was already there because of Samuel, but reading her account of being pregnant with Chloe broke my heart. You can read through her words that she really wanted to keep her baby. She was in love with the birth father and I truly believe that she pictured raising this baby with him. This story is full of heartbreak. She knew the cost of giving her child up for a better life and she chose again to pay that cost. I am truly humbled every day that I am raising not one, but two of this young mother's children. I wish she could see a glimpse of how much love her children get every day from so so many people. So today on Chloe's birthday I whisper a prayer to this Korean mother. I ask that her heart is comforted with the fact that her children are happy and loved beyond words.
I think Chloe has had a pretty good day. She got a call from Grandma and Grandpa this morning to wish her a happy birthday. She wore her new dress to church and we let her bring her new baby doll and Minnie purse (which we usually do not let her). After church she picked The Peanut Place (Logan's Roadhouse) for lunch. She then got to take her nap with me in my bed:) She has been a little sassy today. She thought she should get everything she wanted today. She would ask us something and we whould tell her "No" and she would say " But today is my birthday!" After our nap she has been busy playing with all her new toys. Chloe has definety been my most challenging child:) but she is a sweet girl and has a smile that will melt your heart. Here are a few pictures from today.
