Sunday, February 10, 2013- Juicing Days 1 & 2

A few months back Jeremy watched this documentary by a man by the name of Joe Cross on Netflix called Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.
The movie followed an overweight man with an autoimmune disease that decides to go on a 60 juicing fast. Along his journey he meets another man who has the same disease he has and is extremely overweight, so the movie also follows the life of this gentleman as he follows the juicing diet. Although Joe Cross does the juicing fast for 60 days he challenges people to do a 10 day reboot and commit to juicing for 10 days to see healthy benefits. The idea sounds great, but when Jeremy asked me about doing the 10 day reboot with him I was not exactly on board. The thought of only drinking juice for 10 days did not sound fun to me. Over the past few weeks my fibro has been so bad and I have been miserable. In spite of my efforts to lose weight, the scale would go up and sown each week and was becoming very frustrating. I have felt for several years that my body needed a reboot and a good cleansing. So, with a lot of hesitation :) I told Jeremy that we could do the 10 day juicing challenge. I thought it would be best to start on a weekend so we had two days without having to work and we do no have school on Tuesday (Thank you Mr. Lincoln), so we decided to start our juicing diet yesterday. We went after school on Friday and bought a juicer and then we went to Chili's for one last meal :). I got up Saturday morning and went to the grocery store with my list of juicer recipes. I bought a bunch a green leafy vegetables that have never been in my mouth before! I was a little overwhelmed, but I managed to get a cart full of fruits and vegetables that we will be drinking this week. We started out yesterday by making a juice made up of only fruits and it was really good. At lunch we got brave and made a juice that had mostly fruit, a few carrots, and a pinch of ginger. Jeremy really liked this recipe. It was okay for me but I think the punch of ginger at the end of each sip did not sit well with me. Jeremy got extra brave in the afternoon and made one of the green recipes. Let's just say we are not ready for the all veggie juices. It was the worst thing I every put into my mouth!! The day went pretty good. Jeremy slept. I tried to sleep but I have been battling a nasty cold, so every time I laid down my nose would stuff right up and I could not get to sleep. I sat in my chair and watched movies with the kids. That was fine until every 10 minutes they would want a snack, or they were "sooo hungry!" The afternoon was terrible. I was so hungry and I could not believe I had agreed to do this thing! When supper time came I was just plain cranky. We ended the night with pure apple juice and it was yummy that I started to think that maybe I could do this. I was asleep by 9:00.

I woke up this morning with the worst headache! I seriously did not know if I would be able to get out of bed this morning. I think my headache was a combination of no caffeine, no real meals, and my sinus stuff that I am dealing with. Jeremy got up and got me a migraine pill by Excedrin. He stopped by the bathroom scale and noted that he had lost 3 pounds yesterday. I got up and declared that if I had not lost anything I was going to eat something :) I also lost 3 pounds. We realize that this amount of weight loss per day will not continue, but it was nice to see. We made a great recipe with pineapple, oranges, and pears this morning for breakfast. We got ready and went to church and it was a bit of a struggle smelling all the yummy coffee (have I ever mentioned that I am addicted to coffee). Toward the end of service our tummies were growling and we started to feel a little faint. It was also a mental roadblock to get past the fact that Sunday afternoon lunch is usually a big deal and we eat pretty good on Sundays. We came home and we got the kids something to eat and we had another delicious juice that consisted of pineapple, strawberries, pears, and mint leaves. After we drank our lunch we all headed for bed. In fact, we all just woke up a few minutes ago. I am feeling much better this afternoon than I did yesterday at this time. I know the next 8 :) days are going to be a challenge, but I am hoping to be on the right road to health at the end of these 10 days. I am going to try and update each day on our progress. If you have Netflix or other movie watching options, I would highly suggest you check out the movie that has sparked our insanity!
