Last night Jeremy and I waited anxiously for the news conference that would be taking place at 10:00 PM. We had been following tweets about what was taking place and we were some what optimistic. The president of the Chicago Teacher Union came on-screen and announced that no agreement could be met and that the teachers would be striking. Tear ran down my cheeks and I felt like some one had punched me in the stomach. I sat on the couch crying and trying to figure out what in the world the Lord was up to. Once again, this was not how we had planned on living our first few weeks in Chicago. I stayed awake much of the night trying to turn over my fears, worries, plans, and control over to the One who is really in control. I know there will be more tears and worries, but I did wake up this morning with a new sense of peace. Here are a few things that I am thankful for today.
1. This strike has opened up opportunities to make relationships that would not be happening under "normal" circumstances. We have been thrown into an event that has automatically given us common ground with thousands of other teachers.
2. My position is part-time and non-union, so I am still able to work in the morning at :schools set up to offer part-time care for students. I will be working from 7:30-12:30 with my principal and the other part-time employees at our school. This really is a huge blessing. I can not even begin to think about walking into a situation not knowing a single person.
3. This morning as we went into the school we were working at (our school is not one of the sites) we had to pass through picket lines. I had heard that they could get pretty nasty sometimes, but the people were very supportive of us who were going to work.
4. With being employed by the YMCA I also am scheduled to work every afternoon from 1-6. This makes for a very long day and I ask that you would pray for me physically, but I am thankful for the work.
5. Our new debit cards FINALLY arrived today.
6. We have had a few families give financially to us. I hate asking for money but we have no other choice at this time. Those who gave I know could use the money for themselves and I am beyond thankful for their generosity.
7. I mentioned the other day that I was out of my medicine. My main concern was that I was out of my "chill pills":) I found almost a months worth of these pills in my medicine container that I had packed up and just got around to unpacking.
8. I am thankful for left over cherry cobbler.

9. I am thankful that we had food today. We have clothes on our backs. We have a nice warm apartment and have a bed to climb into later (actually sooner than later:)
10. I am thankful for Jeremy, Samuel, Emma, and Chloe.
