Yesterday was a stressful day. It seemed every time I turned around something else required my attention. I woke up yesterday not feeling very well. I think it is just allergies and the fact that I tossed and turned most of the night Wednesday. Yesterday while I was writing my blog post I got a text from my bank that they had restricted my debit card and I needed to call right away. I called them and I was told that my card was part of one of the recent breaches at a store and they would need to issue me a new card. They told me that at that point my card had been deactivated. I was a little panicked because what was I supposed to do until my new card came. They told me to go to my local back and get a temporary card, blah, blah, blah, but our bank near us is a nightmare to go in and do business. It is always packed and only one or two tellers and I don't mean this ugly, but there are usually foreigners in there trying to do transactions that they can't do and there is usually yelling involved. I was also worried because I knew that I had two bills coming out yesterday that were linked to that card. The lady talked to her manager and said she could keep my card activated until Sunday. A few hours later I went to Wal-Mart to get a few things and my card was declined! I was so embarrassed! I pick the kids up and Samuel has so much homework! He had a project due today, two for sure tests, and a poem to memorize to present in class today. He also said he had a science test but he had no idea what was going to be covered, the teacher did not list on the class website that there was going to be a test, and they had not finished the review pages. Because of his science grade I was pretty stressed out! I am still not sure if he had a test today. We studied the best we could, but that poor child had so much information put into his brain last night I am surprised he remembered his name this morning!
We get home from school to start the marathon homework session and I see that I missed a call from the school. I was hoping that it was Samuel's science teacher to clear up the science test confusion since I emailed her several times right after school.
I call the school back and it was Chloe's teacher :(. Chloe was getting into other student's desks at school yesterday. It was addressed and she said she was sorry and wouldn't do it again. About 15 minutes later it was time to pack up and when Chloe went in the hall she started getting in other student's lockers (yes, they have lockers for some reason) and looking in backpacks. It's so troubling because based on her behavior with her siblings I am convinced she was looking to steal their items. She did not get sent to the office but the teacher did call me. The teacher suggested that we start taking steps to get her to talk to the counselor to try and find out why she does this behavior. I went over some of her history since the day she came home from Korea. I told her that this behavior is also happening at home. Of course hearing that your child needs some counseling is very troubling. I told her that we would not make any decision until after her dad gets back home and we discuss this further. I am not against counseling. The child needs Jesus, but she might also need some other help. Our concern is that we want a counselor that is in line with our values and belief. I would also prefer someone that deals more with adoptive children. We know the true root of this behavior, but I explained to her teacher that from the day Chloe came home we knew that things were different with her and I am not sure getting to the root of problems from long ago is going to happen. SIGH, we just need your prayers for guidance concerning this situation.
To top our day off, the people living in the middle apartment were completely out of control last night, The noise and nonsense is taking a toll on our family and Michelle and Lauren who live in the basement apartment.
Well, I feel like I have been doing a lot of complaining in this post, so I will leave it on a sweet note. Wednesday night Samuel asked if he could use my computer. I said he could but wanted to know what he was going to do. His response, "Oh, just write a book." :) He wrote a little interactive story called "The Best Day of My Life". Here is what he wrote.
The best time of my life was when I was born and then adopted. I love my family now.
I have two sisters. One of them I know by heart and the other not so much.
Do you have any brothers or sisters? I love my mom and dad. I am in the fifth grade.
I am 10 years old. My favorite color is orange. I have the nicest mom.
When my mom saw my face she was so happy to see me. My dad was also happy to see me.
My second favorite day was when I locked my mom out in the garage.
I hope you liked my story! This is the first time writing a book.
I thought it was so sweet! As Samuel gets older he talks about his adoption more often. It is a little hard when he talks about it, but the older he gets I see that he is accepting the fact that he is adopted but he also belongs and that makes me happy. He loves hearing and telling about the day he locked me out of the house. We had just moved into our new house in Chapmansboro, TN and we were going to be meeting our social worker that afternoon to start adoption #2. Samuel was two years old and I went out to the garage to put some boxes away and when I went back to the door he had locked the door. I did not have a phone or anything and I was in a panic! I finally talked him into unlocking the door and he thinks the story is hilarious :) .
