The kids and I and Lucy set out this morning to Illinois. It was a pretty uneventful trip except Lucy's cage that was folded up in the back kept falling over on her and then she would climb up on the luggage. I had to stop several times to get it situated again and then about 3 hours into the trip she realized that she could join the kids by jumping over the seat. That is where she stayed the rest of the trip. We made great time even though I had to stop several times. We were gone about 40 minutes when Emma had to use the bathroom! So, we stopped and I got all three kids out and made them go. I only had to threaten once that "I will turn this car around and go back home!" The kids kept me laughing with all the funny things they would say along the way. Samuel was my own radar detector by stating every time he saw a police car or when the speed limit would change. It kept getting on to me because "we are now in a work zone and it says the speed limit says 45 and you are clearly going over 45." I tried to explain to him it was only when the lights were flashing!
Here are a couple other smiles along the way:
Sam- "What kind of cell phone is that!!" As we passed a pay phone in the gas station. It was like some thing from another planet to him:)
We were stopped to get lunch and fill up the truck with gas and there was two choices for lunch, Subway and Taco Bell. The line to Subway was so long and I tried to talk the kids into getting Taco Bell. Sam looks at me as serious as can be and says, "Mom, we need to Eat Fresh." Thank you to Subway's marketing team. Your commercials are working.

Emma- "Oh Wow! Look at that palace up there on mommy's side!!" Apparently the courthouse in Terre Haute, IN looks like a palace:)
Sam- "Oh man mom! Look, those people have an idol God in their yard! People in Chicago bow down to those idols." As we pass the Catholic church in a small town near my parents:)
Biggest Smile of all came from me when we passed the sign near my parent's house that says CHICAGO- 65 miles!!!!
When we get about an hour from Grandma and Grandpa we see miles and miles of these huge windmills. I think they are kind of creepy and look like aliens are attacking:) Emma saw them and said "Well, we are getting close to Grandma's." I was surprised she remembered since we have only gone this particular road a few times. We usually take the Interstate but we found a quicker way going some back roads.

Lucy being crazy in the car!
